She is 28, which made her the youngest White House press secretary in the history of the job when she took it in January 2025. That fact got repeated a lot at the time, usually as a question about whether she could hold the room. Nineteen months of daily briefings is a reasonable answer.

The detail that will probably outlast the rest: she is the first White House press secretary to have a child while serving in the role. She gave birth to a daughter in May, her second, alongside a son who is now two. Press secretaries have had young families before. None had a baby mid-tenure and came back to the podium.

Trump said she will stay on as a top outside advisor, which is the customary landing spot for a departing aide who is leaving on good terms. Whether that means anything in practice usually depends on the aide, not the title.

No successor has been named.
