Alvin Kamara Out at Least a Month

Schefter: at least a month. The Athletic: not ready for Detroit on Sept. 13. Kamara avoided a tear and still lost the opener. New Orleans is already thinner than it wanted to be.

Adam Schefter reported it Wednesday: Alvin Kamara sprained his MCL and is expected to be sidelined at least a month. ESPN ran it. The Athletic’s league source put the play on Tuesday’s joint with Dallas, said he avoided major ligament damage, and said he will not be ready for the Saints’ Sept. 13 opener in Detroit. Those two sentences can both be true. “At least a month” from Aug. 19 is a Week 1 scratch with Week 2–3 still in a fog. We will not clear him for a Sunday we have not been given.

This is the second Saints skill-player clock in three days. Jordyn Tyson’s hamstring was already a roughly two-month story. That does not make Kamara’s MCL a season. It does make New Orleans’s Week 1 offense a different construction than the one on the brochure. We are not going to name a replacement committee. The team has not.

Month clock from Schefter / ESPN. Opener scratch from The Athletic, Aug. 19. “Avoided major ligament damage” is that source’s medical framing, not an MRI we have seen.

Fantasy translation

Redraft: sit Week 1. The “at least” is doing work — a month from Aug. 19 can eat Week 2 as well. Do not start him until the Saints take him off the mystery clock. Dynasty: this is a 30-year-old back with another soft-tissue month, not a retirement. Best-ball: the opener is a zero; later weeks are an option, not a promise.

Handcuff math is a roster question the depth chart has to answer on the record. Until New Orleans names the first-down job, every “RB2 spike” take is fan fiction. We will not write it.

The takeaway

Kamara is out at least a month with an MCL sprain. He misses Detroit. “At least” means do not circle Week 2 in ink.
